Not that I'll be buying one till spring but how does it do when things get cold and snowy?
Also, why is the color palette so bland?

I think everyone is very sideways on their opinion.

Just get a good set of snows (for all 4 wheel) and be a proactive driver in adverse conditions.
As for the color palette, I've never minded it. It comes in black so all is good. It is an entry level sports coupe though.

With a set of blizzaks mine did fine last winter. Given I didn't drive it in anything super deep and almost got stuck on a pretty steep hill (though I drove around a FWD that was stuck). I'd guess the low ground clearance would make it not so great in deep snow.
As a side note, the factory rust proofing is damn good. Was bad about doing under carriage washes. All I had was some light surface rust on the exhaust, the sway bar links(still plenty good enough swap the front bar), and a few bolts here and there.

I've been known to 180 on the topic.

I dont own one but there was someone who parked their on the street by my place in milwaukee. It snowed ALOT last winter but they seemed to be in and out of the spots just fine despite the 1 foot of rock hard ice that gathered on the side of the street from the plow. However. I did see them one day struggling harder than most to get out of the spot after a fresh snow. Granted they are Parallel parking it on a city street with snow plows. if you have indoor parking you should be better of than them.

Just like every other RWD small car? Completely fine as long as you have some tread and its only a few inches deep at most.

I'll probably be getting one in black as well unless I opt for the BRZ. Just wish there was a standard yellow for me to consider.

I figured as much but my commute is about 30 miles (60 round trip) with some rural back roads and interstate travel, so I'm a little worried about the distance.

You might have to let some opinions slide.

The distance wouldn't worry me, rural roads however would. I live in michigan and I used to live out in the country, so I know that life. Also used to have Jeeps, but since I moved to Detroit I've had 2 cars, both RWD and I've loved it. Hell I'll even find excuses to goto the store when its snowing so I can drift. Honestly if I was you I would base the decision off how fast those rural roads get plowed (& I guess how much it actually snows where you live).

I live in CT so it probably snows less than Michigan and since I haven't driven my route to work in the snow I'm not sure how fast they get plowed. I imagine its pretty quick because it goes through some affluent towns; and to be honest it isn't rural I just couldn't think of a better way to describe a two lane road with a lot of trees and some homes on it.

I'll be testing this theory out this winter, since the BRZ is my DD
